ciao π
β
Duolingo announced a bunch of cool new stuff at Duocon back in October...
Radio,
Comments,
Adventures ((which has just started popping up for some Android users on the French course)) π
β
but one of the biggest announcements was a "revamp" to one of Duolingo's existing features...
β
and let me tell ya... they've made it SO much better... π
β
achievement: unlocked π
the big change has come to Duolingo's achievements system π
achievements ((if you didn't know)) are dished out for reaching certain milestones or completing certain tasks
for example...
complete a legendary level... earn the Legendary achievement
complete 10 quests... get Quest Champion
earn 40 XP in timed chalenges... unlock Challenger
β
the old-school achievements looked like this...
they were fine... but there was definitely room for improvement
...so that's what Duolingo did.
and now... they look like THIS...
new look,
new achievements,
and new ways to show them off...
how to view your new achievements π€
as always, Duolingo doesn't like rolling out new stuff to everyone at the same time
((you know how it is, A/B testing and all that)) βΉοΈ
the new achievements came to Android devices at the end of 2023 and they've started trickling onto iOS devices in the last couple of months
however, a lot of iOS users still haven't got them, so don't panic if you're one of them.
if you DO have them, you can view them by heading to your profile page, scrolling down to your achievements section, and tapping VIEW ALL...
from here you'll be able to see a complete list of all your achievements, as well as the ones you haven't unlocked yet.
you'll also notice they're split into two different sections...
personal records vs awards π
one of the many cool things about the new achievements is that they're now split into two categories: personal records and awards
personal records are at the top of your achievements list and show off some of your biggest Duolingo milestones. these include:
- longest streak
- perfect lessons in a single day
- most XP in a single day
- highest league finish
underneath each record you'll see the date you achieved it
if you tap a record, you'll be able to see more details...
this means that weekend you spent sweating it out to get top 10 in the Diamond Tournament will never be forgotten... it will live on your profile forever and ever ππͺ
awards are more like the old Duolingo achievements
they're tiered and aren't based on records you achieve in a single day
they target a bunch of different areas like XP, words learned, levels completed, time spent etc
as you work your way through each tier, you'll unlock new variations of the award + a cheeky little rewards chest π€©
β
annnnnd if you wanna show off your achievements to your friends and followers on social media you can tap the share button in the top right...
((or you could just screenshot it... whatever floats your boat πββοΈ))
comparing achievements π―
if you wanna see how you stack up against your friends and league rivals... you can ((kinda))
achievements appear on your public profile, so everyone can see what you've unlocked
to view another user's achievements, you just have to view their profile in the same way you view yours... simply tap their username and scroll down to their acheivements...
you can't actually do a side-by-side comparison of records and awards, which is a bit of a shame... but i'm sure this is something Duolingo can add in future
β
anyway
Duolingo has done a great job with the achievements revamp
the new system is way more dynamic than it used to be. I think the personal records are really cool ((especially if you end up losing an absolute monster of a streak)) and the artwork looks classssss π¨
I'm pretty sure they said back at Duocon they were looking to add challenge badges to the achievements list, which would make a lot of sense as they don't currently appear on your public profile
and I dunno about you but I've got nearly 3 years worth of badges I wanna show off π
β
but yeah, that's the new achievements system in a nutshell
β
which achievement are you most proud of? π€
βcome share it with me over on X (Twitter)!
