seems to have gone a bit under the radar, but it’s actually a pretty significant tweak
some have received it, others haven't
but either way, it’s really important to be aware of, especially if you care about your XP...

the tweak
basically, Duolingo has made some changes to the xp boost
you know how before it would double your xp for 15-30 minutes?
you could unlock them by doing things on your path, completing friends quests, early bird and night owl chests etc
well now the double xp boost is just one of 3 different xp boosts 👀
the complete lineup now is:
yep. that means you can now get a TRIPLE XP BOOST for your lessons 😮
and that’s not all...
the different boosts now stack on top of each other and inherit the highest value
meaning if you’ve got a triple xp boost active and you then unlock a 1.5 and 2.0 boost, then they’ll basically turn into triple xp boosts as well
means you can realistically have an hour of triple xp if you put your mind to it... 😵💫
pretty nuts, huh?
how to get the new boosts
to unlock the new boosts, you’ve just gotta complete your daily quests
you know how there are bronze, silver and gold chests?
well that’s where you’ll find them:
- 1.5 in the bronze
- 2.0 in the silver
- 3.0 in the gold
i’m not sure if it’s available on everyone’s devices yet ((classic Duolingo 🙃)) so you’ll have to check it out and see what pops up.
so if you complete your bronze quest and you only get gems, stands a good chance you haven’t received the tweak
I think it’s a bit unfair though that some people are getting hours of triple xp while others don’t have the chance
but hey ho. Duolingo’s gonna Duolingo. they absolutely love an a/b test don't they?
I think this is gonna have a massive effect on the leagues
the weekly totals were crazy enough in Obsidian and Diamond before the new boosts...
but now they’re gonna be outrageous 🙈📈
think of what Super and Max members could do with a triple xp boost on Match Madness…
we’re talking HUNDREDS of xp every couple of minutes
mental.
so yeah. if you've found the leagues have been getting harder recently... stands a good chance this will be why!!
